Is this a good investment? Is this gonna pay off sometime in the future? 0:35 And as we've mentioned a billion times before at this point, you know, everyone does have their unique pathway to success. 0:42 But at the same time I feel like having a college degree at this point is more important than it ever has been. 0:49 Because just the economy, the job market, everything is so competitive that having a college degree is like a minimum requirement. 1:00 Yeah it doesn't make you stand out anymore. It just puts you on the same level with a hundred other people applying for that same one job 1:05 Exactly, now the question is, you know, is every major going to be a successful as...you know...one another, like if you're going to major in liberal arts. 1:16 I don't know, (or) you're gonna get a degree in women's studies. Is that going to guarantee that your gonna have an awesome job when you graduate? probably not. 1:25 You have to... we've talked about this before, but you do have to think of your college career as an investment. 1:32 You have to think about what happens to your life beyond college...you know...back in the day and I miss these days I really wish this was still the reality. 1:38 People could go to college for self enlightenment and they would be able to do so at an affordable price. 1:43 You’ve got to basically appease your intellectual curiosity and that is awesome 1:48 You know...and I really wish that we still have the ability to do that now, but no, education now has become a huge investment. 1:54 And it's like a huge business move, you gotta make a decision as to whether or not you're majors gonna pay off in the future. 2:00 When I was first watching this video, it said that we've come to the point where after becoming such a powerful country in developing all the ways that we did 2:09 That now are you know the the economic and educational outlook at the next generation is actually worse than the one that came before ...like america is the place where we have this educated dynamic workforce week ... you know... We invest in... you know.... in our in our population. 2:24 I don't want us to go back to the point where college becomes only for the people who have a lot of money it's only for the elites. 2:33 You know... that may have worked in the eighteen hundreds but that's not what I want for American the future. 2:37 So I think that she definitely should go to college for the economic reasons if nothing else. 2:43 But I wish we could get back to the point where as you were saying it was partially for enlightning was partially for self-development I wish that's where we're at. 2:49 Some would argue that community colleges offered the ability to go to college for something enlightment because Community College used to be affordable but we've moved away from that at this point.
