  • 简介
  • 0:09 I love sports. 0:12 I've loved them from the time I was a young man. I love them even though I didn't grow up in a sports family. 0:20 I think I fell in love with sports because I thought is honest. If you can produce, you get to play. And it was that simple. 0:32 I come to you today to talk to you about maybe an importance in sports that we haven't recognized before. 0:37 I've been able to do a ton of things because the sport. I was able to represent my University, I was able to become an all-American, I won watches, I was in magazines. 0:47 And all the that pales when we talk about the importance of what could be in sports right now. 0:55 Historically we has been four ways by which we raise men in this country: in the home, in the church, in the military and in sports. 1:09 Cultural changes have changed the mix on the importance of how those things work. 1:18 In the home, right now one-third of American children about 15 million children grow up in a home with no father. 1:32 As a lot of young boys growing up without the daily example of manhood in their home. 1:40 In church, census tells us the less than 20 percent of American citizens go to church, attend to a church service on a regular basis. 1:52 And if social trends in America follow Europe like they usually do by 2025, the number could be 12 or 13 percent of American citizens attend to a church service on a regular basis. 2:03 Because the technology, cyber advancement, the current administration desire to bring the number of acted military down to its lowest point since world war II. 2:20 80 percent of applicants to the military get turned away. Not raise a lot a man in the military either. 2:26 What we're left with is sports. Could be the last bastion by which we give the characteristics and the virtues with which we raise men. 2:41 In sports, where we learn the virtual of the huddle where you take north and south East and West, conservative and liberal, black and white, 2:52 you put them in a same huddle, you given them same color jersey you give them a common goal. You let them sweat, tear up and work hard together and special things start to take place. 3:07 What we learn teamwork, community, fidelity, we care about each other, don't let each other down. 3:16 In your coaches term that says teams to play for a great fan base win a lot of games. 3:20 Teams to play for a great coach win a lot of games. Teams to play for each other win Championships. 3:34 It’s a concept we could use in our families right now. 3:38 What about pride, well I am constantly reminded that pride is the worst of the 7 Sense. and I constantly have to remind people, unfortunately, I got a lot of it. 3:46 But I don't think you can get anywhere in this world without some pride, without some passion, without some accountability. What pride for me means personal responsibility in daily excellent. 3:59 That's my pride. 4:07 We talk about failure, the virtue from failure. The sports based in failure sometimes those under virtues that allow us to succeed in life. 4:18 Because we've experienced some failure in other places. 4:22 I wanted to be a national champion. I've been blessed enough to be an all-American. I have done a ton of stuff, but I've never been in individual national champion. 4:31 We get to my senior year we're at North Carolina State, and I have a shot to be a national champion in a number of events. I get second place, I get third place, so I am a all-American again, but I'm not a national champion. 4:45 And that's what I wanted to be. 4:52 We get to a four by four relay, I'm the anchor and I wanted on me, I am the key, and I sat in front of my house with my Walter Mitty stories, thinking I'm putting myself in places where I can be the hero. 5:02 I counted down three, two, one and shot the basket I wanted to anchor that four by four relay. 5:12 We get down to the anchor, and I'm waiting like this, and I wait for my guy bring me to the baton, he gives me baton, and I take out front it. but I'm in third place about 12 or 13 meters. 5:21 Within the first 50 meters I go, past the guy in second place, somewhere along the back straight. I put up next to the guy in first place. 5:32 for the life of me I have no idea why don't go by them. 5:36 My coach always told me, if you get up next to him you have to go by make him run your race, if you sit next to him you end up running his. 5:54 I run tied with him for about 200 meters until we get to 50 meters to go, I am close in. About forty meters to go, he starts pulling front of me and pulling a little further away from me. 6:05 and finally I'm getting the notion about 10 to 15 meters to go that I’m gonna get my team second-place again. 6:09 I was miserable. I was crushed at that moment it was one of my toughest things I've ever had to experience. 6:20 But you know what I learned from it? One, do what your coaches, and you teachers and you parents tell you to do. Cause they usually know a lot more than you do. If I done what I was coached to do that day I win that race. 6:34 Two. Failures are not permanent. Failures like a rain cloud, and it sometimes it rains on you, you got a ride it out 6:44 and three if you don't internalize it, and you don't personalize it, you realize it's just a part of life, and you will grow, and become better for it. 6:54 All those lessons I learned in sports, to manage failure, to be in community. to understand the characteristics of diversity, to understand interconnected relationship between preparation and success. 7:11 All of these virtues that we have learned in so many other places in life that seemingly we have to learn in sports itself. Where we gonna get them from, how important the sports become. 7:26 Former supreme court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes probably more popularize for coining the phrase, clear the present danger 7:37 Also said the place for any man completely all of powers is in the fight . and I don't know if I am completing all of my powers. 7:48 But having the opportunity through sports to fight for the growth and development of young people. 7:54 When seemingly every historic fixture around them is breaking. It’s a fight that I am honor to be in. Thank you very much.

内容做的很细,很全。我重点看的是写作这块,前面给的句型,在后面实践中都能用到。
