You do want to make sure that the financial aid, whatever it is, can be continued for the length of your program. I don’t care if it’s a one-year program or a four-year program. If you need financial aid to go to that institution and you get a financial aid award, make sure that you ask whether it will be continued for your sophomore year, your junior year, your senior year. You want to finish that program. So sometimes, merit financial aid is based upon, for example, a student’s grade point average while they’re in college. What happens if your GPA goes below that? If you lose that scholarship, can it be replaced with something else? So you need to ask some questions. Students who are going to go to college are being admitted because they have the capacity — the potential — to do well. You need to remember that and to keep asking those questions so that you make sure you go to your full potential.
