What’s going on guys? Review No. 3 come here right now, alright let’s talk about the imitation game. The imitation games tells a story about Alan Turing who here is played by the always reliable Benedict Cumberbatch, and tells a story of this man who during world war 2, was able to develop this machine that was able to decrypt German messages in order to give the allies the advantage in the war and ultimately decreased the link of the war and helped win the war. And also it tells a story of Alan Turing himself and his backstory and how he came to be the brilliant man that he was. And there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding this movie I’ve been hearing some great things especially about Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance, and I’m really interested in the story I feel like I haven’t learned enough about Alan Turing and I was really interested to learn more about this man and or more about his contributions and it’s incredible to me how underplayed his significance in history is, I mean I barely learned about him in school, barely even mentioned I mean it was almost like a side. Yet this man basically brought the end toward World War 2 with his technology. He did that, look he was instrumental, why are we not learning more about this man. Sorry this had to be said.
Now first of all, I have to talk about the performance in this movie because there’s something the best I’ve seen all year. And that’s saying a lot because I’ve seen something great performance in 2014. Benedict Cumberbatch is one of my favorite actors, the guy is like a community, he can play anybody. He could play a prostitute nurse probably, in fact that’s probably his next role. The man is always reliable. He always gets a solid performance but this, this is the best performance ever seen Benedict Cumberbatch give and that is saying a lot considering his resume. This is a character that is incredibly tricky to play, you don’t wanna overplay him, you don’t wanna underplay him, you wanna give this character justice, you wanna make his presence significant, at the same time also stay in true to his character. So difficult, so hard to do, yet Benedict Cumberbatch makes it look like effortless, effortless. He knows how to subtly played humor for his character, he knows how to give his character this dramatic death how to make him warm, how to understand why he’s off-putting to a lot of people but also you understand this man’s brilliance. And he perfectly portrays these characteristics and there are some heartbreaking scenes in this movie. There’s one particular scene toward the end of the movie where he’s talking to Keira Knightley’s character who he forms this very beautiful friendship with, and it’s just…it destroyed me, just destroying me, Cumberbatch that’s gonna be his Oscar reel. That scene, just some little snipper to that scene, it just, in that once it’s..yep, that’s the Oscar nomination, there it is, this man is incredible. Now wasn’t just that scene and every scene in this movie the guy just nails it, and he commands the screen, even though he’s playing a character who is a little bit timid nature is kind of introverted. Yet you are completely drown to this guy, he’s very very engrossing. And Keira Knightley, also fantastic in this movie. Her scenes about Cumberbatch are just wonderful. They play off each other beautifully. And I really thought she was a great foil for Alan Turing in this film, but I was really impressed with her performance. It was nice to see her tackle a role like this. She said she’s been having a good year beginning the imitation game. Go Keira Knightley, you do your thing. And also we have some supporting performances from Mark Strong who pops up at..I mean the guy is everything, and also with like a hilarious new hairpiece because in every movie they just gotta put something on his head and this one was pretty funny. It was a good laugh. But also he’s very good in the movie, you have Turing’s death and give him phone making his appearance as a super douche, which he plays very well. And also you have Mathew Goode’s part. I mean there are a lot of familiar faces and they all really help anchor Benedict Cumberbatch’s just trying performance. I cannot praise the performance enough, I do not hear about him come Oscar time I will be peeved. And national movie itself, I found it to be incredibly interesting, this is a whole new world information that had not yet been introduced to, I was really upset about that, because this is a big period in history. The contributions Alan Turing made during World War 2, unbelievable, and yet I barely heard about this guy, and I feel horribly ignorant for not knowing more about him. So I apologize to you for not knowing more about him, this man was brilliant and getting to see his genius in action, so much fun to watch. I mean just seeing him develop his machine have his pitfalls have his tryouts, you know starting to make friends for the first time, you know, real true friends who support his cause and wanna help him and aid him in his quest of winning the war. I mean that’s all great stuff and as the movie got on and on I honestly thought it’s got more interesting and more interesting and I found myself completely enveloped in the story. It was great. And I was really, I really was surprised that this movie didn’t come off as more like an Oscar beta. I just thought it was gonna be great performance with Benedict Cumberbatch, the rest of the movie, typical Oscar beta, bullshit. But I was wonderfully surprised by the fact that this movie has a lot more to offer and bring to the table. I love how the film went back and forth through time, I mean you have you know like something’s taking place in like the 1950s, some 1939 1940, and some when Alan Turing was you know a kid in school where he was meeting like the boy who was basically like the love of his life essentially. But all that stuff was great, it helped to give him a backstory, it gave depth to the character, also gave me some history with the character too. And it was great seeing how something to play into other flashback scenes or flashforward scenes. I thought that was handled very well and the movie’s edited beautifully.
And also the music by Alexandre Desplat, one of my favorite composers I thought was great, some heartbreaking stuff point to the next year. Also in the scenes in which Alan Turing triumphs the music perfectly complements those scenes. I love the story and also the music is very good. There’s a thing I really care about this movie is that it’s a little slow, I know I mention this complete a lot, I’m just kind of an impatient guy, or just I’m kind of just looking for something to really grab my attention, I apologize that this you know complaints come up on my reviews, but none of the less, if a movie fails the whole of my attention for a little bit, it kind of gets on my nerves, so there’s certain points with the movie where I kind of find myself drifting off a little bit, I didn’t find myself terribly interested in you know a certain scene, because I didn’t think it add too much to this movie, but I mean that is really a small complaint, very small, very minute, an otherwise very good, and surprisingly that is a satisfying movie. So in the end, the imitation game is a great bio pic, I think it brings justice to the man that was Alan Turing I mean the performances all round are just incredible, I think it’s really a well-written movie, beautifully-shot movie, and it’s got a great score to boost as well, and would we just fair to say that yet sometimes the pacing is slow, such a small complaint. So in the end, I’m gonna give the imitation game an A minus, I really enjoy this movie, the more I think about it the more I like it, and am actually very interested in seeing it again at some point. So definitely check it out, if you are a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, or just really into Bio pics, or wanna know more about history if you don’t really know a lot about this man I know I didn’t, I may not be the only ones of you. Or like me, definitely check this movie out, because it’ll be right up your alley.
